Welcome to Artaffect Studios and Gallery

Upcoming events
Sunday 15th February 10am to 5pm
Artist, Nicole Manley will be introducing collage in its many forms as a way of exploring past present and future experiences of the Jed River and other local rivers in the Scottish Borders through the making of collage. People with memories of Jed River and other local rivers are warmly invited to participate in a voyage down memory lane exploring thoughts and feelings about their river and our natural and historical heritage.
Nicole will introduce collage making in the morning in a welcoming environment in the Port House - where she will explain the various techniques of collage, which will include aspects about how we can explore our perception to our environment in multiple ways, which can be then expressed through collage. We will then go for a gentle walk along the banks of the Jed River in Jedburgh, where you will take photographs on your mobile phones, find objects, and walk in silence, taking time to experiencing and exploring the environment.
The afternoon will be collage making, where you will be able to use the physical photographs you have taken in the morning as layers within your collage, while working with words, stencils, paint and other found objects. The afternoon will come to a close using an approach of free association to form a collaged dialogue based on the made collages and the experience walking along the Jed River. This is an approach that enables tacit (unspoken) knowledge to come to a surface and be spoken in a shared space to provide greater meaning to our daily lives and how we experience our local rivers and one another.
This workshop is open to people who require wheelchair access or have difficulty walking. if you need wheelchair access or need to know more about the walk, please contact nmanley@artaffect.co.uk as she can ensure that parts of the walk are accessible for you. Facing and building change together: arts and science
Join us for a talk and screening of award winning short film One Day We will Dance with You (by Alkis Papastathopoulos & Kate Adams). One Day is a film about human bonds and molecular bonds, at a time when floods and droughts have become part of everyday life. It imagines what it means to create a celebration with a community of people we love, of everything watery, from molecule vibrations to the way water flows through the stem of a plant. Made in collaboration with WATERAGRI a European research project on water, sustainability and nutrient recycling, it is the result of a long term collaboration between people from many different backgrounds.
Kate, the artist and researcher leading the collaboration, will be presenting the film and speaking about the potential of working across the arts and science as we face the ecological, climate and sustainability challenges that are beginning to affect all our lives.
Saturday 28th February 2026 - 10 am until 5 pm
Join us for a day-long workshop exploring our relationship with water through stories, movement, drawing and words, with interdisciplinary artist Kate Adams.
This is a welcoming space for personal and creative exploration for artists and non-artists. You don’t need any experience to participate, just a bit of curiosity.
We’ll play with the dynamics and qualities of water and open up themes relating to cycles in nature, personal connections and stories of water. Kate will bring images and starting points and you are invited to do the same if you wish. You might bring an image or a word or a memory that resonates with you.
We will begin with a warm up drawing on the practice of qi gong and move between creative exercises, discussions and writing/drawing time. Some of the games and creative explorations will involve movement, so please wear comfortable clothes.
Note 1: If you have difficulty paying the £90, ArtAffect will offer a substantial discount. This is for students, unwaged or anyone else in this situation. To apply for your discounted place, please contact jmanley@artffect.co.uk
